North Florida Open Chess Tournament

This is a USCF rated tournament that is open to everyone with non-expired USCF ID#.

LOCATION: Ramada Inn I-95 & 9150 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville 32256

3 Sections:  Open & U1550  U900 sections. Players can play up one level only

Prizes:  $1000 (100% guaranteed as we have eclipsed the 35 player threshold). Cash prizes for best players U2000, U1800, U1200 & U550

Registration: 9:00 to 9:40 am.  ONSITE Cash or check only accepted the morning of the event  or  Online Registration is currently open until Friday 11 pm, July 15th.  Expired USCF registration can be renewed on site by check or cash. NO CREDIT CARDS accepted onsite.

USCF membership required (we will assist you with a new membership or you need to renew on-site).

Time: Registration 9:00 am - 9:45 am Late arrivals will be paired in the 2nd round. No exceptions. 
Rounds: 10:00 am, 11:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm. (min breaks between Rds.)
Lunch: 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Ends: 8:00 pm

Bring own sets and clocks or purchase onsite (cash or check). Wheelchair accessible.

BYE: 1/2 point bye available (limit 2) for registered players, must commit before Rd 2. Non-registered late arrivals will be given 0 point byes for missed rounds. No admissions after round 2.

We had 38 players compete in our Saturday tournament and once again there were several new players who were either new to us or Unrated and therefore new to competitive chess. Congratulations to the section winners and their USCF point increases as a result of their success.

Our next event is July 16 and it will be the official North Florida Open. The site will be different as it will be the Ramada Inn off I-95 and Baymeadows Road. Our plan is to offer our largest prize fund to date and winner's trophy for each section. It was originally thought out as a two-day, but it has been reduced to one for this year.

Check back this week as more will be posted very soon.

Registration deadline for online registration ends Friday night @ 11 pm. Please make sure to register in advance to cut down on lines for either event. Online registration at www.chessregister.com. The Open and Scholastic events are listed separately. Please select the right one as the entry fees are different. JAXCC members enjoy a discounted rate and are eligible to use the discount code online.

Walk-up Registration will be open on Saturday (CASH or Check only option):

8:15 - 8:45 Scholastic Registration only. Round 1 starts at 9 am sharp. Late arrivals may not be paired until the 2nd round. 

9:15 - 9:45 Warm-Up Event Registration. Round 1 starts at 10 am sharp. Late arrivals may not be paired until the 2nd round.

USCF Registration must be current to play. This is an absolute requirement to participate. We can register you at the event, but it is better to do this beforehand. Your proof will be a current (non-expired) or new USCF ID#. Go to www.uscf.org to obtain or renew your ID.

Scholastic Series

The final event of the three part series. Open to players in grades K - 12. Two sections: K-6 U700 & K-12 Open.

Entry Fee: $20 General ; $15 JAXCC Members

4SS (rounds of swiss format play)

Registration Opens at 8:30

Round 1 begins at 9:00am with subsequent rounds to follow.

Prizes: Trophies to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers in each section. Medals to all players.

North Florida Warm-Up Open: This tournament is open to all players (adults and youth).

Entry Fee: $30 General ; $25 JAXCC Members

2016 Spring Scholastic-Series-2016 will be held on the same day, but will start hours earlier.

We have made changes to our 2016 schedule where most of our events are now double offerings to include OPEN Events (anyone can play) to Closed Events for just scholastic players. This weekend 11 JAXCC players have had to decide whether to play in Florida or Georgia. Seven players, including 17 year old Women's FIDE Master Laura Zayas is headed to the Florida state championship in Orlando hosted by the Florida Chess Association. Four others are bound to Brunswick, Georgia for the Golden Isles Scholastic Chess Association's 4th in a series event. We wish them all the best and we will report back when results have come in. We will host another dual chess offering at San Jose Church of Christ (Family Life Center) on 6233 San Jose Blvd.

Winter Scholastic Series Finale (K-12) Event #2 of 3

Entry: $25 general USCF / JAXCC $20 members

All players must have USCF ID #s to register. New players can register on-site or before the event.

Time: 9 am Registration Opens (Cash or check); Round 1 starts at 9:30. Play is usually completed by 3 pm

Play: 4 rounds  G/30;d5

Sections: 2 sections. All players must be USCF members with USCF ID #

Prizes: Trophies to top three finishers in each section.  Grand prix points to all participants that count toward series trophy levels when combined with wins or draws.  Door prizes: Children's chess book and Searching for Bobby Fisher DVD. Clocks, boards and sets now available for sale at the event - cash sale only. Join JAX's fastest growing rated youth chess event.

 

JAXCC March Open (all players/all levels) Special Pricing $25/$20

Time controls G/60;d5. Longer time controls works better for some players, so here is a local event that fits that group. Stronger scholastics can play up against adults. This is can be a ratings booster for many kids.

Entry: $25 general USCF   /  $20  JAXCC members (cash or check only)

Prizes: $300 (b/o 10 players) with under prizes for lower rated

Prize distribution can increase with more players.

About the series: This USCF RATED event is open to all scholastic players (K-12) who are registered with the United States Chess Federation (www.uschess.org). Registration is $17 per year for a youth membership. A USCF ID # will be provided with a successful registration. Every player in our tournament must have a USCF ID number to participate.
