June Scholastic Event (grades K-12)

Round 1 @ 9am.      Registration opens at 8:15.             Closes 8:45a.           Entry fee: General $20 / JAXCC $15 / Free for JAXCC Spring Semester pupils.         Students (K-12): 4 round Swiss format K-12 chess tournament with time controls set at 30 minutes with a 5 sec delay (4SS G/30;d5). Players are grouped by rating and unrated players are welcome. All players must have an active USCF ID#. Players can renew/register with USCF on site. Prizes are trophies for top 4 finishers. North Florida Open Warm-up: June Open & Reserve Event starts later than scholastic 

Round 1 @ 10 am.         Registration closes at 9:45                   EF: General $30 / (JAXCC $25).     Four round Open tournament with 2 sections over $500 in prize money (b/o 20 entries). 4SS G/65;d5 (1st round G/45;d5). Prizes to section winners. Under prizes for U2000, 1800, 1650 & U1200. Unrated players can play in either section and are not eligible for class prizes.  Round 1 starts at 10 am. Late players receives 1st rd bye. JAXCC members can use the discounted price (see discount section). This event is regular rated. JAXCC thanks Judy Johnson, retired teacher and grandmother for donating 25 chess sets to be used for scholastic events. Judy's husband, Ronald, had purchased the sets many years ago for use in a school program. When the school ended the chess program they contacted her to see if she wanted them back. At her husband's request, she collected them and they sat in storage for years. Upon Ronald's passing she thought about placing them in the hands of people who would get the most use knowing he would have wanted that too. She called us and we had the pleasure of meeting her and accepting the donation. The sets are in excellent condition, considering their age, with 25 boards and triple weighted pieces individually bagged. A wonderful gift that will be put to good use for years to come. Thank you, Judy and Ronald.

Great 14 player turnout in JAX for this event. If you missed it then save the date: May 5, 2018 for QC-2018. This year we had $250 in cash prizes and loads of fun for our players. Kira Caza won the cup on tiebreaks in the Champion's section and Reagan Foote was the winner in the Reserve U600 section. See full photos on our facebook site.

Hotel Indigo @Tapestry Park link to hotel

An invitation to our second chess event for women and girls only. Moms too! 

Dear Lady Chess Players,  Last year, 10 women and girls came out and participated in our first event. We considered it a success and are doing it again. This year we've upgraded the location to one more fitting for a queen, the eclectic and hip Hotel Indigo. They are also a sponsor this year along with JAXCC-Jacksonville Chess Club, Inc. 

Royal Treatment: First the location, Tapestry Park, is a top notch area with shopping and dining options along cobblestoned streets. Hotel Indigo was rated within the top 10 in Jacksonville. The area has shoppes, eateries, Tinseltown AMC theaters and dozens of restaurants are walking distance. You are going to love this location. Make plans to stay.

As we did last year, every player who registers will receive a free feminine cut t-shirt, but this year we're upgrading to a long sleeve shirt.  Why long sleeve? Chess players often find tournament locations to be very cold and often wear sweaters or jackets. This year's shirt will sport a new multi-colored logo on a black shirt. The hotel will be providing a catered lunch for players only.The prize fund this year has increased to $300.

Entry fee online: $35.  $45 at door (cash only). JAXCC member (-$5) discounts available and returning QC players need to email for special discount information. This Saturday at Ramada there are two separate events. Both are $20 General entry (-$5 for JAXCC members).

2pm expected end time.
 
11:30: Blitz G/5 check-in.  
Noon Round 1 start. 
2:30 expected end time. $300 prize fund in 6 dbl rounds of play.

Starting (Tuesday 3/28) we will begin meeting at Starbuck 11441 San Jose and Mandarin Road. For our weekly Quick Rated Chess Tuesdays. 
 
 
It is across the street from the Belgium Café, but can accommodate more players. Since moving to Mandarin we've had several nights of 13 or more players. Those kind of numbers actually overwhelm the cozy café and although we are always careful to leave tables for patrons, Starbucks has more tables and stays open until 10. This may allow us to get in the 4th game more often.
 
Please come out and join us. Round 1 starts at 6:45p.
 
Remember, this event is USCF Quick rated and requires all players to be active members that are not expired.
